Komandoo Street Name Plates

An initiative aiming to enhance navigation for both tourists and locals by providing clear street names in Dhivehi and English, along with QR codes linking to a digital island map.

Komandoo Street Name Plates

On the 1st of October 2024, in the Annual General Meeting of the Association, it was discussed that an imminent and direct approach was needed of the association towards the small community of the island. Considering the rapid growth of the local tourism in the inhabited islands and the development of numerous new resorts nearby, it was certain that our small island will see a boost in the visits from outside tourist establishments. It was thoroughly discussed in the meeting, that the island as of now, lacks a medium which would ease the individuals’ know how of the locations while taking strolls. An easily accessible digital island map and visible street name plates would certainly make their short trips a lot more hassle free. Therefore, it was decided with the full majority of the association’s members that KCA’s inauguration project to be the Development and Installation of Street Name Plates in the Island of Sh. Komandoo.

An Official letter was issued from KCA to the Secretariat of The Komandoo Council, which expressed Alliance’s intention and requesting the permission to carry out the project. An official response was received on the 12th of November 2024, in which the President of the Council issued its approval with the further disclosure of the council’s support on the project.

The EXCO members of the Alliance volunteered ourselves and did the research on the financial projections. The current name plates and road signs in the Male’ Area were studied as part of the sampling.

We are confident that this initiative will be remembered as one of the first steps towards a Modern and Sustainable community transformation. Combined initiatives like these will reinforce our island's leadership and restore its prominent standing.
